Dr. Martin Brokenleg

Starts at :Tuesday, November 10 - 3:15 PM - 5:30 PM

Dr. Martin Brokenleg, a Lakota professor who is well known for his teachings on reclaiming Aboriginal youth at risk. His teaching model is called the Circle of Courage, and it is a medicine wheel.

The Circle of Courage, being a medicine wheel, is made up of four quadrants: Belonging, Generosity, Mastery and Independence. Brokenleg teaches that these capacities are inherent in each of us and need to be relatively balanced for us to live balanced social lives. It’s fairly obvious that any services directed towards children need to foster all four of these areas.

Inclusive Play

Starts at :Tuesday, October 27 - 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Presented by Danielle Lafromboise, Coordinator, LEAP BC - Danielle is an experienced early childhood educator who enjoys working collaboratively to design and present workshops for caregivers and families.

Play is an essential part of children's everyday lives. Through inclusive play we develop greater understanding of one another--our similarities, our differences, our likes, our dislikes. In a non-threatening environment, playing with many different individuals enables us to develop, grow and learn from one another at various paces.

What does it mean to have an inclusive program? Do all the children have an opportunity to engage in meaningful play? How can a program offer a variety of play opportunities for children of all abilities?

Join us in this workshop for new inspiration as well as the opportunity to share and adapt commonly know ideas and successes.
