WHY IS EARLY LEARNING IN PRESCHOOLS AND CHILD CARE CENTRES SO IMPORTANT?

Currently one in four British Columbia children will begin kindergarten without the skills they need to succeed. In Campbell River the number is a startling one in three children.
Children who participate in high quality early learning experiences fare better in school.
Quality child care has been identified as a primary need of working families.
Limited access to quality child care has been cited as a key factor that makes it difficult for employers to attract and retain employees.
Research has shown the correlation between quality early learning and future success for both children and communities. For our at risk children, every $1 invested in quality care results in a $13 savings in later social costs according to The Early Years Study 2: Putting Science into Action (March 2007). That 1300% return on investment accrues from lower crime rates, higher lifetime earnings, reduced remedial education costs, and reduced health care costs.
