The vision of Family Place is one of supporting the health and well being of every child whether they are in the care of their parents or child care providers. Statistical research has proven that there is a measure of risk in all children’s development and that by strengthening the supports around all children you optimize the chance of success for every child. This initiative has fed a body of growing public awareness around the importance of early childhood development.
All of the programs are offered free of charge. Family Place provides opportunities for families to develop creative, healthy systems of inter-dependence that stretch far beyond the boundaries of their time with us, which will add stability to the families we serve. In addition to creating an inviting environment, we strive to develop the relationships that will allow us to readily provide information and support for a broad range of issues.
An idea that began with one morning program a week gained momentum that has lead to 15 weekly programs for parents, child care providers and young children in 6 different locations around the community.
Information about current times and places of programs can be found on the city of CR web site, the Campbell River Family Network website and the Parks and Recreation Guide which is available at all city sites.
All these great Family Place programs are made possible through partnerships with PacificCARE Child Care Resource and Referral Program; City of CR Parks Recreation and Culture, Sunrise Resources for Early Childhood Development, Vancouver Island Health Authority, CR Family Services, Building Blocks, the CR Child Care Society and School District 72. We would like to thank them for their contribution to the vision of Family Place and their continued support in the joys and challenges of parenting young children.
The energy around supporting young children and their families has continued to grow. Along with Family Place, Campbell River also has had the good fortune to acquire funding for 3 strong start programs which are offered at Cedar, Georgia Park and Sayward Elementary Schools. Soon there will be a shared program at Sandowne School and the Robron Gathering Place as well.
