The Discovery Islands and the area around Quadra Island have many petroglyphs to discover and decipher. The ancient stone carvings left behind by history can be seen on the high tide line at Wa Wa Kie Beach and Fransisco Point. The rock carvings, or petroglyphs, were made by the Aboriginal people of the region by pecking and abrading selected rock surfaces with stone tools. Petroglyphs abound along the beaches of Quadra Island and around Cape Mudge Lighthouse.
